Hiring: Operations & Communication Support

PWGD is hiring for a part-time position to support internal operations and external communication for itself and a platform cooperative it is incubating. Join us as we work to help people—all of us—gain the most power possible over our own lives.

If you are a community organizer (or aspiring one) who sees a need to reshape the environment organizing takes place in, this is the job for you.

Organizational goals you will be an instrumental part of:

    • Grow the Drutopia-based platform cooperative from five members to 5,000 members.
    • Introduce the concept, and the tools, of community-moderated mass communication to organizations and movements which could use it to better meet long-term liberty- and justice-oriented goals.
    • Focus the benefits of PWGD initiatives on people and groups most harmed by racist, sexist, and otherwise oppressive and discriminatory systems and practices.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    • Handling inquiries to PWGD, including from potential volunteers.
    • Taking the lead in member and donor relations.
    • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date books for PWGD and its incubated projects, primarily Drutopia.
    • Helping us establish practices for using CRM software to organize and keep track of it all: members, volunteers, donors, and partners.

    Requirements:

    • Passion for justice and liberty.
    • Detail oriented and highly organized.
    • Comfort learning to use software.
    • Ability and willingness to take initiative to make progress when direction is not immediately available.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    Desired:

    • Familiarity with bookkeeping.
    • Familiarity with non-profit financial reporting.
    • Interest in cooperatives.
    • Regular (at least monthly) presence in either Allston (Boston) or North Minneapolis.
    • Some travel for attending gatherings relevant to furthering PWGD's goals.

Disclaimer: You will be the first paid worker at PWGD. There's some latent volunteer energy, and a dedicated core working on the Drutopia software already. We need help with day-to-day operations and ultimately long-term planning.

We strongly encourage Black, Latinx, Native American, and other people of color to apply. We strongly encourage women to apply. We strongly encourage people with disabilities to apply; if any physical or intellectual disability would interfere with performing any required duty, we will make all possible accommodations.

Starting pay is $20,000 to $30,000 a year for 20 to 30 hours/week, with 4 weeks paid time off. Work from where you want; co-working space can be arranged in the Boston area or Minneapolis.

If you're interested, please email opsjob@pwgd.org (include "Part-time operations & communication support" in the subject line) with a brief letter detailing why you'd want to work for PWGD. Don't bother with a rėsumė or examples of past achievements if they aren't readily available. Describe what you will do. Know groups hampered by their communication tools and ideas for working with them? Have preferred approaches to coordination you'll bring to this role? Let us know!

Applications are due by May 12 (midnight). Thank you for your time and interest.
